SYNOPSIS
Following the journeys of Michael and Matt, two U.S. combat veterans and their families when they decide to leave the pharmaceutical drugs behind as they seek relief from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by their experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq. They enter the unknown, mind-expanding world of cannabis, ayahuasca and MDMA (Ecstasy). Filmed over 3 years, it takes an intimate look at how these substances, in this case mainly ayahuasca can be used successfully to heal our wounded soldiers—and, by extension, their families. It changed their lives, just when you thought there was no more hope.
MORE ABOUT DIRECTOR – Luc Côté & Janine Sagert
Luc Côté has been directing and producing films since the age of fourteen. He has travelled extensively around the world, making social and political documentaries that capture the human spirit. In 2005, he directed, Crash Landing, a film about post-traumatic stress disorder that won several awards including an Honourable Mention for best Canadian Documentary at the Hot Docs festival. In 2011, he co-directed with Patricio Henriquez: You don’t like the truth – 4 days inside Guantanamo, a documentary that was shown in more than 75 festivals and won ten international awards including Special Jury Award at IDFA, Amsterdam.
Dr. Janine Sagert’s life has uniquely equipped her to help tell the story of combat veterans suffering from PTSD and their transformative healing journeys with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and medical marijuana. She brings to the role of Content Producer an uncommon blend of formal education, professional achievement, and personal experience that is infused with her indomitable spirit.
